Didn't the Supreme Court at the time after the civil war do about all they could to make blacks second class citizens and set the stage for what we have today? The morality of the north can be seen in this light and draft riots (talk about economic issues) of NY city.

As ugly as apartheid in South Africa was last century, IMHO it would have been preferable to over 600K people dying and all the suffering that went into the civl war.

Either way, we're not 'there' in terms of being color blind and as long as there are 'race hustlers' out there, it will be tough, almost impossible to get there.
