I come from a “broken home,” the son of divorced parents. My mom worked two jobs to keep food on our table and I was one of those kids to got to pick up a little card that gave me free lunches at school. I was fortunate in that learning came easy to me, but I still worked hard to get to college and earn a degree. I worked my way through school and was able to get grants and scholarships to help.
I still had to overcome a few things that my more “priveleged” counterparts did not.
But the color of my skin was never one of those things.
It is for (nearly) all black people.
