I completely agree with you and offer an example. I grew up on a farm outside Higginsville. There were only a handful of black kids in my class, but I was friends with them because i was in athletics as were they. One day one my friends started talking about the "cullid" school down the street from his house. I had no idea what he was talking about, so I asked. It was an old abandoned building that was where the black ("colored") kids went to school during segregation. we talked about it a little bit, but he of course had never been to school there and I had no experience to help me understand it, so we moved on. He certainly didn't blame me for it and I gained a little knowledge about my hometown by listening. That was that.
