That rankings are pretty meaningless until around the end of January. Teams can schedule a butter soft non con, (Mike Alden did this almost always) run off 12-13 wins in a row and be ranked. By the end of January, you've been forced to leave your own arena and play somebody.
So many times, KU has been ranked top 3 in November and December and I don't buy in until we've reached the end of January. Coach Self has always scheduled pretty tough in the non con, but you've always got those cupcake home games mixed in that don't tell you much.
