It will be interesting to see what they do to compete, as well as other countries. Economics 101 would say "protectionism" is bad - and in the traditional sense, that's true. However, the World Economies have changed so much over time and now products and services are essentially intertwined all over the world.
In the long run, what Trump is doing may well end up lowering costs, not increasing them. It's about time the United States at least made an attempt to compete. And now it seems other countries are going to adapt accordingly.
