In order to make a big jump, we'll need the following to happen, IMO:
1. Tilmon becomes even more dominant inside and learns to avoid foul trouble. Even when not scoring, he pulls a defense in to the lane to defend him. That opens up so much in the offense.
2. Dru is as good as advertised. We are desperately in need of a player who can create his own shot. Dru Smith could be that.
3. Pickett, Mark Smith, Pinson and/or Watson make huge gains. We'll need a couple of them to go from being good to being great - my money is on Pinson and Pickett. I think Mark is fairly one-dimensional (which is fine - we need a shooter), but Pinson will get stronger, and Pickett just works hard at his game.
4. The incoming freshmen give us good minutes. McKinney on perimeter defense mostly, and Tray Jackson at the 4 - which is so important to CM's offense.
If a lot of this happens, we could be looking at a pretty special year next year. I'm cautiously optimistic that we'll at least be a tournament team next year, finishing inside the top 7 or 8 in the SEC, which has become no small task these days.
