Black Americans had owned business, argued cases as lawyers, voted in elections, etc., for decades PRIOR to Dred Scott. They were capable of citizenship and had ACTED OUT that citizenship for a entire generation after the constitution was signed.

So what Taney wrote was wrong and bigoted.
