Appointing new justices when seats are vacant is not "bringing the Court to heel."

It's the normal, constitutional process. Actual court packing — adding new seats to tilt the balance — was attempted once by FDR in 1937 and overwhelmingly rejected even by Democrats because it was seen as a dangerous attack on judicial independence.

The Court's independence is critical precisely because no president, left or right, should ever have total control over it.

Please explain why this message is being reported.
