Perfectly reasonable you would be. It’s a narrative tailored to low information fans and why as a KSU fan would you possess a high level of knowledge about an at the time SEC program.
If you are interested, at the same time many articles are available for googling about how Haith destroyed our APR. Despite every player that was an APR hit leaving after Kim took over and MU curiously not requesting any waivers for something that waivers are overwhelming and routinely granted for. That is the way our AD worked at the time.
For people who had intimate and inside knowledge of the program not a hint of impropriety or NCAA investigation was known until Jan 2016, nearly two years into Kim’s tenure. They are aware that some questions arose surrounding Jakeenan Gant qualifying academically and he and his mother relocation to the lake of the ozarks for his senior season. That was all certainly questionable and worth looking into, and it’s worth noting none of that is included in the actual report because it was all found to be above board. After Kim was hired and started historically failing, MU conducted a self investigation and self prenalized in January of 2016. 8 months later after reviewing the evidence MU presented and their proposed self penalties the NCAA accepted MU’s self penalties (although the did remove two of MUs reported violations as non violations from the final report). Despite a heavy vested interest and exhaustive attempt, there is a single level 3 violation in the report pertaining to recruiting. A player named Ahmed Hill, who never went to MU, was involved in an improper workout with a booster present during a recruiting visit from Tim Fuller. That is it…that is the whole basis for MU having a cheating staff. There aren’t even any other alleged violations much less proven ones. The rest of the report is about compliance failures and boosters not reporting activities during the offseason with already signed players. There is no written notice of allegations received by MU from the NCAA. If there was actual cheating to uncover, MU tried very hard to find it and failed to do so. What happened is MU crafted an anonymous allegation they were investigating about Gant at the time Haith left into an ‘NCAA investigation’.
That is because that 3 year period is unique in MU history in that virtually no impropriety was allowed to occur. Due to the issues at Miami that staff operated in the cleanest manner possible often to its sizable detriment. It is only after the fact that MU created a narrative that Kim’s tenure was limited by the inherited situation. In fact only after he had significantly failed and proven he couldn’t possibly do this job. It’s also notable that the main violation included in the report is MU sending already committed student athletes to an improperly vetted internship. This occurred both before and after Kim became our coach. Now I don’t want to attribute competence where none is due, but if MU actually was involved in an investigation over the matter when Haith left and MU had been notified of such an allegation that is wild incompetence to just continue sending players to said internship after they were made aware. Or maybe that actually wasn’t being investigated until much later, not an inherited investigation with no notice of allegations by the Kim staff that prompted Haith to leave.
There is your MU bb education if you care for one.
