That season MU had one of if not its all time greatest incoming class, largely compiled simply on the strength that Kim wasn’t there anymore and MU appeared to be trying again. It certainly wasn’t due to Cuonzo’s dynamic recruiting abilities as we saw play out.
That class was paired with a stripped down to bare program with almost no talent and achieved a mediocre season that was impressive given the disaster that preceded it. But because there was no foundation when that class moved on the program fell right back apart. You are also underselling the impact of having real coaches made, Cuonzo and staff were below avg which was a revelation of an improvement and significantly elevated the quality of play and player development
