exactly to be successful then that's true. But if you are looking to be around those numbers to call a season a success then we've been successful a lot. 24 wins with this years non-con wouldn't be the same as 24 wins with the non-con from 2 years ago. 5th place in the SEC would probably be 6th or lower in the Big 12 most years.
If you put the standard for success at around 24 wins, around 5th in conference, and around a 9 seed in the tourney then it's happened probably about half of the seasons this century. For me making the tourney is usually a successful season. And to make the tourney you need to finish in 20-win to mid-20 range depending on SOS and finish in the top half of the conference.
