system and leave millions of people vulnerable, stranded and unprotected, why not just overhaul the system? There are people who need help. Maybe they can't count on their neighbors. Maybe their neighbors are equally old, infirm or vulnerable.
Should those people be abandoned, left to their own inadequate devices to save themselves and their families?
It's not socialist to want a government to help people at some level. That level today is way too high, I agree. Much of it is corrupt and ineffective. Tons of money are wasted. No argument on any of that. But much of it is effective, life-saving and life-changing. To abandon that is insane.
And when idiots like mat suggest that anyone who wants anything from government is a socialist, he thinks he's very manly.
He's not.
