There will never ever be a Efficient and Responsible Govt over a nation of 50 states from the Atlantic to the Pacific with 300 million Plus citizens.
I'd say the President and Candidates should provide their own protection...... The Feds could collect taxpayer money with a 1% collection fee being withheld and 99% of the money going to the President and Candidates to outsource their protection to whom they decide to hire. And let them spend as little or as much of that money as they want.... and pocket the rest if they so desire.
