Tearing apart the writings, looking at not just what it says, but who wrote it, when and where it was written. The religious, political and cultural influences around those writers. Then in the case of the Pentateuch, a brilliant editor or editors, that crafted the stories together in such a way, we can pull them back apart and read them in parallel or read them as one.

It is truly amazing and one could see divine inspiration in that.
