beliefs regarding the world, existence and so on. If that is indoctrination, I see no plausible better alternative.
When adults voluntarily explore a faith and either embrace or reject it, I do not see that as "indoctrination" any more than exploring various political views would be "indoctrination".
I believe that the greatest possibility for abuse occurs in a mandatory school setting where government hired & trained teachers teach the children in a structured setting for what, 6 hours a day or so, with homework on the subject matter for another hour or two per day.
It opens the possibility for those in power to set the agenda and change the beliefs and values for many children. If you go high up enough, they can shape the beliefs and values of an entire nation's children.
That is a framework for indoctrination, and I believe it has been and is currently being used.
It is not a coincidence that the nation's morals have been shifted in a pretty drastic fashion on a variety of issues. Much of it is a deliberate shift fomented by powerful people in the education system, in the mass media & in Hollywood among other places.
