people fled Europe to escape oppression and tyranny.
It was the best and the brightest who could see the reasons to leave. And they left.
Contrast that with the Cuban Mureal boatlift under Jimmy Carter that essentially dumped Cuban garbage into Florida by emptying their prisons and the insane asylums on our shores.
Similarly, Mexico dumps its trash into the southwestern part of America. Not their best and the brightest. Mexico helps their people leave, like Castro did. Gives them pamphlets and advice on how to make it to America. They don't want their best and brightest to leave, they want their lowest rung of society to get out. And then they can send back American dollars to Mexico.
Secondly, in the early parts of the 20th century, there was no welfare magnet here. People who came here knew they had to work. Read the book, Elizabeth Street, about the difficulties of immigrants from Italy in the very early 1900s.
It was difficult for them. Very difficult. They knew that when they came here and were willing to work.
Early immigrants were attracted by opportunity and freedom. Today's immigrants are attracted as much by welfare as by opportunity.
Today's immigrants want to be in the land of the free… Stuff. Commonsense has been replaced by naïveté and cultural suicide disguised as compassion and diversity.
Immigration today cannot be properly compared to immigration of a century ago.
