I agree with you. Ideally, if a child isn't wanted, avoid pregnancy.
We also agree that an embryo does not have the same value as a child. It has value, but an embryo isn't the same as a human being. That's the point of the thought experiment.
Since an embryo isn't a human being, I can recognize that a pregnant woman has the right to privacy (and other rights) which enable to do with her body as she chooses (up to a point).
My original question was "Why not regulate men?" There are legal limits on a woman who becomes pregnant. How about legal limits on men who impregnate women?
China for example has had limits on the number of children allowed per family for many years. They enforce it partly by required sterilization of women even though they could accomplish the same goal by sterilizing men.
So, back to the original question. Why does the law only focus on women's bodies instead of including men's bodies?
How would thinking about abortion change if men were the ones being legally restricted when it comes to their bodies?
