Do we really pine for the days when Mizzou went to New Mexico in 2006? Or played a 'neutral site' game against Arkansas State at Arrowhead in 2005? Or went to Troy State (and lost) in 2004? Or went to Ball State in 2003?
Or more recently going to Wyoming (and losing) in 2019? Or playing at Arkansas State in 2015?
None of those are memorable games, other than the losses, and did nothing for Mizzou. We either won a game and nobody cared, or were lost and it was embarassing.
If we're not scheduling non-con games against meaningful opponents like former Big 8 foes (I loved playing KSU the last couple of years, I'm looking forward to playing kansas, I want to schedule Nebraska, I'd like to play Iowa State, I'd like to play Colorado) or other regional rival teams like Illinois, then what's the point? I don't care to have Mizzou scheduling USC or Clemson or Notre Dame or someone like that who is a big name that we have NO HISTORY with. I don't care about playing B1G/ACC foes that are equal/lesser than us like a Purdue, Indiana, Virginia, NC State, etc. There's nothing exciting about that; not compared to regular conference games against Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, etc.
Schedule an old B12 team as often as we can for a non-con, play the other 2 or 3 non-con games against the worst possible teams, all of that at home or neutral. Mizzou's popularity and success will be forged in the SEC, not elsewhere.
