You run hundreds of thousands of people through metal detectors. Are they going to search every store front and building along the route too?

There are two options here. You either cancel the parade or you make the best effort possible to stop these things knowing that all you can really do is try and hope for the best.

There is no perfect solution for stopping evil and ignorant people.
