Gates wouldn’t be the first coach that’s had his early teams struggle defensively.
Sampson is largely believed to be one of the best defensive coaches in the game today. It took him 3 years to get a top 100 defense since his 4th year Houston has been top 25 each season.

That’s why I ask if it’s about talent.
