I think that a basketball players physical skills are more evident on average then a football players. A great basketball player can slice through defenders more noticeably than a football player can. A highly skilled defensive player in basketball is also more distinguishable. I believe it is easier for an adequate football player to look great within the realm of all the moving parts and different systems designed to take advantage of average skills on a football team, more so than a basketball team... making it easier to distinguish obviously talented players from average ones.
