I think that is what the OP was getting at, a kid with uber-level talent and not the brains/attitude to make use of it. DGB for example. In the NFL you'd have to put Aldon Smith in that category. Potential HOF talent, but doesn't have the personal skills to make use of it. Pinkel did an amazing coaching job with him keeping him on track while at MU.

To answer the OP, would I rather have Brad Smith or DGB? Anyone with half a brain would pick Brad Smith any day of the week. But hindsight is always 20/20. The best coaches can figure that out before making them an offer. I can't.
