during the time Alden was pursuing Painter, Cuonzo took the ut job (Painter & Cuonzo have the same agent.) Obviously Marshall would have been a good get at that point, but he hadn't built his resume.

The Marshall plan was after Haith's departure - there wasn't a plan B when Alden missed on Marshall.
