beyond his competence level and failing. I'm not in the coaching profession, so I don't have a comparable baseline.
But if I had inexplicably been given a role that I was not qualified for nor took the steps to prepare for, after wondering my whole life if I could do it, when I learned that definitively I could not do the job I would respectfully bow out. Rather than continue the charade and crater something I and many people I know care about simply to continue collecting a paycheck I don't deserve. That is what I begrudge him for. He simply refused to quit, and he normally has more character than that. And I certainly wouldn't throw everyone around me under the bus to try and distract from my failures.
