testified. P15/16 of the warrant application states that Simpson never advised Steele to the motivation for the research (Steele was the fbi contact.) Since Steele wasn't advised of the purpose for the engagement, he clearly would not have been advised of the client's identity.
BTW - you assert that the DNC was the end client, I believe it was actually HRC's campaign....for purposes of the FISA warrant, would it matter whether the client was Clinton, DNC or someone like Soros? The FBI stated in the application that it was their "speculation" that the research was motivated to get information to "discredit" the Trump campaign (thus the FBI accurately disclosed the motivation for engaging Steele.)
