Pinkel just told him that, while he understood, there were other ways to work with the players and school to do something sensible. Ivey then thought Pinkel was too blind by his "privilege" to really care. Pinkel told Ivey that kind of divisiveness wasn't going to work and told Rhoades about their conversation. Rhoades consulted admins and they concluded team unification was the only path and firing Ivey and benching players would make the school look a lot worse. Instead, they were standing up for justice, they thought it would blow over quietly.
