Why is it self-serving to urge a kid to pick a school 1st?

The day a kid signs is the first day a staff starts to recruit over him. That's they way of competition.

Why wouldn't a kid and his family want to evaluate a school -- its academics, its support structure, its culture -- and prioritize that over a position coach?
