agreement here.

Because of their position cops have an ability to easily abuse their power if they choose to do so. It would much easier for a cop to shake down a low rung drug dealer because of the power of his badge. He has not only taken advantage of the drug dealer he has also taken advantage of the badge and sullied its reputation in the process.

There should definitely be extra consequences for abusing that power. Now if he commits an infraction on his own time that has nothing to do with the badge then I think it is a different issue. But any crime committed while on duty need to be heavily punished.
