1st place gets rewarded handsomely... 2nd place a little less...3rd place even less.... At some point, you finish so badly that you get nothing.

That's life! And parents need to teach that to kids early and often. Little Tommy didn't get a trophy? Work harder.. get better and improve so you do next season.

In AYSO, the "Under 5" children get participation trophies. After that (6 years old and higher) you EARN your trophy through hard work, practice and teamwork.
