what was required to make the tourney during that stretch. I agree that you can make the tourney without getting top 50 players.
However, very few teams make the tourney with any regularity without getting top 150 players in almost every class and without getting some really good players every 2 or 3 years. Look at the 5 year stretch when Mizzou made the tourney under Anderson and Haith. During that stretch we constantly had top 150 upperclassmen mixed in with good transfers and jucos. In fact we had only two 150+ high school recruits average double digits during that stretch (Bowers and Lawrence). The rest were top 150 players, transfers, or jucos.
