Illinois might have been ranked 10 at the time you played them (early on), but ended the year 23-13; 8-10 in the Big 10, unranked to end the year, and a 7 seed in the tourney.
Notre Dame was your better pick here. They ended the year ranked 24 and also a 7 seed in the tourney.
Nova, similar to Illinois, ended the year unranked, and a 9 seed. Cal was also similar. Ended unranked and a 12 seed.
So really, your best Non-con win was Notre Dame, not Illinois.
For comparison sake, KU played 6 schools that made the NCAA Tourney in the Non-con that year (MSU, SLU, CU, Belmont, Ohio State, and Temple). The only loss was MSU (neutral, by 3), and their best win was at Ohio State (by 8, with OSU ending the year ranked 7).
MSU also ended the year ranked (9), SLU ranked (16). But then again, KU always schedules for a challenging non-con.
