wins and losses measures performance as well

Sure the coaches could have done better.
But so to should the players. And the best way for them to be better, listen to the coaching that they were getting. Hit open shots, make the right pass, play defense, and rebound.

Since they didn't do that. And the coaches couldn't get them to do that. It's not a big loss.
You seem stuck where lots of NBA teams are, dreaming about a players potential, not what he has shown he can do.

And really most of the players on the team now haven't shown they can do anything either.
