First, like Byrd, apologize for his divisive comments that rely on negative stereotyping of blacks. Then find common ground with moderate blacks. I haven't seen any moderate positions that would appear to black moderates, such as myself. Certainly, I wouldn't expect him to endorse liberal policies, not does he have to.

However, I do recognize that truly appealing to black moderates would hurt him with his core constituency that's mainly concerned with the browning of America, thus want focus on illegal immigration.
