blame when it isn’t overcome. The reality is that the middle class is shrinking with wage stagnation, unaffordable housing and job insecurity. In the achievement society individuals are burning themselves out for a slice of a pie that is growing smaller. The promise of upward mobility turning into a cycle of burnout and self-blame.

The alternative is to step away from the achievement society and prioritize family, friends and re-orient to activities meaningful in themselves rather than measured by achievement or performance.
