Generally agree, but we have hired 3 people in my area in the last 5 years, and LinkedIn connections for sure helped to get some background information.

I made the mistake 3 jobs ago to not looking and was getting way underpaid. Or you could say the next job overpaid me when I got a 50% raise to move.
