Right. The purpose of the amendment is well known but there is nothing in the wording making the birthright clause exclusive to formerly enslaved people or putting a temporal limit on it. It's been interpreted consistently since 1868 as applying to all except the children of diplomats. All nations in the western hemisphere have birthright citizenship except for Haiti and Colombia. It's not as rare as people think.
