and was the only poster to do so to this point, so I’ll answer my own question.
I don’t think it’s bad. I also don’t think it’s good, in and of itself.
In general, though, I do think more Americans is a good thing from, at minimum, an economic and military standpoint. We’re nowhere close to capacity, so I have no concern with adding additional Americans by whatever legal means is available.
I suspect those who do think it’s bad believe citizenship is some sort of zero-sum game and more Americans takes away from their own (family’s) opportunities - they’re just not willing to say so. “They’re takin er jerbs!” El-ahairah came closest, believing he’s “owed something” because of his ancestors.
I haven’t seen a better answer yet. Still waiting.
