1-loss Alabama was picked over undefeated FSU, even though Alabama had already lost to another team in the field (Texas).

And it turned out to be the right decision.

Alabama was highly competitive in the playoff (nearly won it) while FSU was decimated by an SEC team in the Orange Bowl.
