The SEC's top teams were clearly better, despite having more losses than undefeated FSU (which got annihilated by Georgia in the Orange Bowl).

The best teams from the SEC should get in regardless of what their conference records are. That's how strong the conference is. As I've said before, the SEC will not tolerate deserving SEC teams being left out for less-deserving teams from weaker conferences.
