are ignoring the Ancient Near East cosmology of the Bible and how the writer used that cosmology, understood by the ancient audience, to make theological points to that ancient audience.
Go read Genesis 15. Does God tell Abraham to chop the animals in half? Nope. Abraham does it. Why? Because that was part of the ritual of the Ancient Near East for entering a covenant. Did God need Abraham to chop the animals in half? Nope. But God was communicating to Abraham in a way Abraham understood.
That is what you completely miss.
Did God need all those animal sacrifices at the temple? Nope. He was working with the Israelites in terms they could understand in the world that they live in.
God meets people where they are at.
