We had all 13 scholarships filled in 2010-11, Justin Safford was our only senior so one scholarship was opening up. Keith Dewitt had committed to that scholarship, he was a JUCO transfer we originally signed out of prep school but he didn't qualify and got routed to JUCO first. Anderson continued to recruit Otto Porter despite not having an available scholarship to offer because Porter had made it clear he wasn't going to make a decision until after his high school season concluded.
That was our status at the end of the early signing period. When the regular signing period opened up, Mike Anderson was no longer our coach. Keith Dewitt ended up going elsewhere and both Ricky Kreklow and Jon Underwood left the program meaning there was 3 scholarships now available. Also Kadeem Green was coming off a medical redshirt, and Laurence Bowers went on one after being injuring that offseason.
So when Mike was last able to sign players for MU he had Dewitt committed to fill his one available spot and was continue to pursue Otto Porter in case situations opened up another.
