Tim Wolfe wanted that hire.

Wolfe gave Alden a shot at one candidate, if that didn't work the job went to Kim.

Alden took his shot with Gregg Marshall, Alden couldn't give Marshall the same type of rolling deal Marshall had at WSU (Marshall always had 7 years on his deal). When that fell through Wolfe got the guy he wanted and Alden "retired".
