We also don't know how Self would do in a scenario where he wasn't able to massively cheat. He was running into compliance issues at Illinois which is why he left there. And certainly a viable argument could be made that possibly nobody does less with more year over year than Self.

I think with the advantage of hindsight its much more plausible to say that the probation that resulted from Quin would have been 3X worse had Self been in place and he would have coached out the rest of his career in obscurity in the D-League like Quin started down the path of doing. Quin is just a much better coach than Self so he recovered.
