Racism may be real, a matter of perception or both.
The issue under discussion is why didn't Mizzou attract more outstanding black instate athletes. I am merely suggesting that one reason, a major reason, is there was a perception in the 1960's into the 1970's that Mizzou was not a particularly good place for a black athlete from St. Louis to go to college.
Those of you who don't buy that Tiger Athletics had no issues with the black community in St. Louis should research the actions and writings of Richard "Onion" Horton at the St. Louis American. You might also look into the relatoinship between Floyd Irons at Vashion High School and Norm Steward. And those of you who think that Mizzou has never had a "race" issue should reflect on the football boycott in November 2015. I'll grant the boycott may have resulted from some individuals pursuing their own agendas. However, what other Power Five program has had a similar problem?
While race or perceptions of race are not the only reason that Tiger Athletics has not attracted as many instate blue chip prospects as one might hope or expect, to assert it has had no impact over the past sixty or so years is to ignore reality.
