FWIW:
1. There is a 1940 U.S. Supreme Court decision that essentially ordered the admission of a black student to the UMC Law School. The first black graduated from the UMC Law School in 1968.
2. "Dixie" was the Tigers unofficial fight song through the 1960's into the 1970's. It was played frequently at football and basketball games and the pom pom squad had a special dance routine for it.
3. Columbia and Boone County were nicknamed and frequently referred to as "Little Dixie" into the 1970's.
4. Norm Stewart had ongoing issues with the St. Louis Public League coaches. Mizzou athletics generally had issues in the St. Louis metro area.
5. Black alternate media in St. Louis was anti-Mizzou.
6. Missouri produced relatively few top quality players, i.e. I recall Stewart saying he recruited Michigan because it usually had about twenty-five prospects a year and Missouri might struggle to have five.
7. A lot of the top Missouri kids opted to go out of state to "blue ribbon programs". Tiger football struggled for three decades after Devine left. Norm Stewart enjoyed a lot of success, but realisticly it would be hard to describe Tiger basketball as a national blue ribbon program under Norm.
