Absolutely. Kentucky didn't have a black basketball player until the 70's. Colonel Reb persisted as a mascot at Ole Miss until about 10 years ago. Mizzou sports have had recurring recruiting issues for in state players over the years but race relations is not one of the reasons. Like most other places, the ebb and flow of recruiting is more related to an individual coach's ability to recruit and the lack of a historically high profile program in the state (which is in part related to the state of Missouri being established early on as a professional sport state).
