I did it for years until kids activities got in the way.

No matter what time kickoff is, the day starts at 4:45, on the road at 5, parking at 8. Your best case scenario is that you get home about 6-7 pm on a 11 am kickoff, but that kind of sucks because the tailgate is really short or you're at the Berg for the breakfast buffet...which is good, but it's not tailgating. Most games you are midnight to 1 am getting home. All of this after you spent and hour on Friday night loading up. It becomes serious work, especially when you have a 3 game homestand.
compared to living in CoMo or Jeff, I could sleep until 7 and be home by 10:30 at the latest.
It is a huge difference. And if you have K-HS kids and live 3 hours away, you basically can't do it more than once a season unless you and your kids are involved in absolutely zero activities.
