whole "Show Me" bit to the extreme when it comes to MU. Fanhood is a conditional thing more so than in other parts of the country. I don't know that for a fact, just my perception. I.e., win and we'll maybe come back, but those victories must include the non-conference likes of Ohio St., OU, Oregon, etc., and they must all be home games.
There also seems to be a major gap in attitudes between old timers who remember consistently better football (and basketball) days at MU, vs. those who are, say, 30 and under. The last of the older crowd is literally starting to die off, leaving a fan base that has grown up with very large TVs and every game telecast, not to mention football and hoops programs that have been extremely up and down.
If this is just the way it is, then it seems to me the AD should figure out ways to incentivize Mid-Missourians within a 50 mile radius to come to the games while Drinkwitz rebuilds the program. I'm not about to suggest that someone in St. Louis or KC or other far reaches of the state with a family should go to the games frequently if it's not in their budget or if they have a lot going on. It is expensive. But this is the challenge at MU and it's going to take years to rebuild a consistently enthusiastic fan and alumni base. To your question, no, Missouri is not like the rest of the SEC.
