removing free market pressures that keep prices in check and benefit the user. Rather than insurance being for big events, medical coverage simply became pre-funded medical care and price never became a real criterion for the user. Just plop down your co-pay and go no questions asked. And when the carriers have contracts with insurance companies, it reduces opportunities for market competition day in and day out. That mindset has been very injurious to necessary market influences to improve competition and reduce costs.
