Seriously?... How would you describe a defendant in a criminal case who pleads guilty to the top count of an indictment without any sort of plea bargain from the prosecutor, essentially throwing himself at the mercy of the court?
Sterk pled guilty to the top count of the NCAA's charges (a level 1 violation) then threw himself at their mercy. When they handed down a punishment within the penalty range of what Sterk pled guilty to, he then acted shocked and indignant about it — insisting that he "trusted" the NCAA.
You never "trust" a prosecutor! That's what plea deals are for! Sterk should have had an agreement or understanding in writing before cooperating with the NCAA (especially if pleading guilty to the top count). Actually, Sterk shouldn't have cooperated with the NCAA at all... It would have been an easy case for any halfway competent law firm to defend against.
Sterk is an SEC athletic director making nearly a million dollars per year. Being able to handle the NCAA is part of the job description. Whether or not he remains our AD should depend on the outcome of the appeal.
